Row after row of cardboard boxes lined the floor of New Covenant Baptist Church in Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic. Since the suspension of in-person services due to the pandemic, 21 volunteers gathered in the empty church building to fill 2,811 Food Paks.
Prior to the pandemic, filled Food Paks prepared by our faithful Volunteer Force were shipped to the Dominican Republic from our San Antonio Distribution Center. Due to the increased need from the global lockdown, emergency funding was sent to allow Mercy Network churches to purchase food in-country for families facing food insecurity in their communities.
Not only was New Covenant Baptist Church happy to take on the responsibility of building Food Paks, but the children of the church were given the opportunity to participate. The children’s hand-written notes to the families receiving the food were also included as the boxes were being packed. The Food Paks were distributed to 25 neighboring churches, who were able to bless 663 families in need with food and a message of hope.
Your support allows us to resource churches, making it possible for them to continue serving their communities. We’re thankful for you and we pray you feel blessed to be a part of this ministry.
